It's Garbage Day.

2.5 degrees in the Hollow at 6:30 a.m.

You'll probably need a jacket this morning!

The morning Weather Forecast from TWCNY:

Lake Flurries/Snow Showers
Bitterly Cold the Next Few Days
Outside of some very limited lake effect south of Lake Ontario today, our weather looks fairly quiet but it will be bitterly cold. Actual highs will be in the single digits with sub-zero wind chills.
This arctic air mass is expected to stay in place through midweek with temperatures unable to make it out of the single digits. During this time period, you're advised to dress in layers and restrict the amount of time both you and your pets spend outdoors.

While many should escape Wednesday dry, we'll have a few lake snow showers to contend with west of I-81. The forecast calls for a slight moderation in temperatures late in the week and heading into the weekend; however, we will still end up below average with highs only in the teens and 20s.

As the temperature began to slide downward, yesterday afternoon, an inch or two of light snow fell .................

............... outlining limbs on old willows .....

.................  and bringing several dozen mallards to the little pond at the foot of Grant Hill to enjoy a last day of open water paddling.

Last Thursday I joined many other villagers at Waterville's Winter Farmers Market in the bank building in the center of the Village....

........  thoroughly enjoying chats with the vendors as well as the sights and tasty samples of the many items on display.

Folks from Happy Pasture and Quarry Brook Farms came with coolers filled with many pre-packaged cuts of meat, then there was a table covered with everything from jams and jellies to homespun, hand-dyed yarns and home-made soaps, followed by a display of more jams and jellies as well as cheeses and garlicky spreads -  plus home-grown garlic! -  by The Creative Shepherd.

The Stoltzfus Family Dairy had a large display of their well-known cheeses and yogurt placed right next to a petite boulangerie offering several different varieties of light and crusty French Pastry.

There was nothing delicate about these cookies by Zimmer's Bakes!  Nearly 6" across, each variety was packed with fresh-baked chewy flavor!  (And I know, for sure!)

Because I like earrings just about as much as I like molassses cookies, I stopped to visit with Heather Blivens of Weathered Heather, marveling over her intricately hand-painted images of moths and leaves and bringing home a pair of earrings in that wonderful pale oceanwave color of worn bits of beach glass.

I also joined a group of folks sitting down and chatting over cups of coffee 'specially brewed by Pastor Doug Cowburn and members of the SouthGate Ministries congregation.

The next Farmers Market will take place on
Thursday, January 30th!
