It's 0.0 degrees at 7:45 a.m.

(Yes indeed - it was easy to convince myself
that it was a good morning to sleep late!)

Although several schools in the area are closed, Waterville Central is not.

The TW-CNY Weather:

"HARSH Wind Chills,  Locally Heavy Lake Effect Snow
It will be a  cold one with highs in the single digits and wind chills well below zero. These frigid temperatures, paired with a rather strong breeze will result in harsh sub-zero wind chill values. Dressing in layers is advised and any time spent outdoors should be restricted for both you and your pets. A few flurries possible for most with localized heavy snow east of Lake Ontario.
Lake effect snow is expected to continue east of the lake on Tuesday and right into Wednesday before finally shutting down. Luckily, during this time period, temperatures will start to moderate with highs returning to the 20s and eventually getting back into the 30s by Friday.
Stay safe and keep warm!"

IN THE NEWS

The name of the victim in yesterday's accident on Route 20 has not been released, as far as I know, but the Oneida County Sheriff's Office did release the following statement around noontime, yesterday:

"According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol; The Oneida County Sheriff's Office, is investigating an accident on State Route 20, in the Town of Sangerfield. The Sheriff’s Office responded on January 6th, 2014 at approximately 6:45 a.m. when a call came in that an individual had struck a person who was lying in the center of the east bound lane on Route 20 just south of the Village Of Waterville. The operator of the vehicle stated he was moving into the passing lane when he realized there was a person lying in the roadway. The operator of the vehicle tried swerving his vehicle but stated he was unable to avoid striking the person lying in the road. The operator of the vehicle turned his vehicle around and came back to where the person was lying. The operator of the vehicle pulled the person off to the side of the road and called 911. The Waterville Fire Department and Waterville Ambulance responded to the scene. The person who was struck was pronounced dead at the scene.
