"Breezy & Warm Thursday. Rain Heavy at Times Friday

There is a low risk for an isolated shower or storm today, but most of the day looks dry and warm!  Any storm should end up being rather spotty in nature.
Tonight will be variably cloudy and mild with lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s.  Thursday will be a breezy and warrm day with a blend of sun and clouds.  Highs will be in the low and mid 80s.
A cold front will finally arrive by Friday with rain, heavy at times. It will also cool things down quite a bit as temperatures only manage to top out in the low/mid 60s starting Friday."

IN THE MAIL

At a meeting Tuesday night, The Board of Directors of the Waterville Public Library celebrated Nicki Suba's retirement after ten years of service on Board.
Back rowMark Barnes, vp; Chris Rudecoff, pres; Mary Beth Erlichman, treasurer; Nicki Suba; Debbie Olin, secy
Front rowJeff Reynolds, library director; Kelly Hildreth; Holly McNamara.

(The entire Waterville community certainly owes the Board their gratitude for making the new Library such a wonderful community resource and I'm sure that late Board president, Dick Brown, would doff his red baseball cap to all of you!)

Adding to the local "Bird Count,"

Karen Fox writes that she and her son, Colton, saw a Bald Eagle and that Colton and Julio Ayala then saw a Scarlet Tanager. Both sightings were in North Brookfield.

On Tuesday a bright blue Indigo Bunting appeared at one of the bird  feeders in my yard and seems to have settled in. I have not seen his mate, because she is undoubtedly a dull brown color, but last evening a second male appeared at a feeder on my back porch!   Joy!

I just don't have the right camera for pictures of small birds, but this works .....

The "Single Swan a-Swimming," across from Woodman Pond, north of Hamilton.

In the Woods....

May Apple leaves are unfurling like so many tiny umbrellas sheltering crowds of gnomes!

In the Village

Beautiful hanging planters are appearing.
These are at the Copes', on White Street.

On East Main Street, work moves right ahead on the new CVS store.

Elsewhere

At the Landis Farm on Shanley Road.
Fresh Asparagus - either "skinny" or "fat," -
$2.00 a bunch.

Years ago, when the gardens at Root Glen were tended by volunteers, we used to work frantically just before Commencement to get the beds in the Hemlock Enclosure in tip-top shape for the big weekend.  Well: the big weekend is nearly here and, yes, the beds are neat as can be, but where is all the color?  The Iris? The Peonies?
They are definitely late, this year.

"TBT"

The Waterville Golf Club, located on what was then called South Street (now Osborn Avenue) opened in June, 1901. The "club house" was located somewhere near where the Vetter and Larson residences now stand and the golf course itself covered property on both sides of the road as far south as the brook. Funds for the entire project were raised by "subscriptions" -  voluntary contributions from the public.  Two other community undertakings - the construction of the Opera House in 1880 and the Civil War Monument in 1899 - were accomplished the same way.

HAVE A GRAND WEEKEND, EVERYONE!
