It's Garbage Day
45 degrees and overcast at 6:15 a.m.

The Weather Forecast from TWCNY:

"Warmer with a Few Showers, Remaining Above Average into Early Next Week

A warm front will provide a mostly cloudy/partly sunny skies today along with the threat for a passing shower or thunderstorm.  Temperatures on Thursday will climb into the upper 60s and lower 70s.
This warming trend looks to continue through the end of the week and on Friday, the forecast calls for highs in the upper 70s.
Even as a cold front works through this weekend, it shouldn't cool down too much with temperatures still able to top out in the 70s both Saturday and Sunday."

YESTERDAY

So many Photos, but I only took one!

New "blacktop" and yellow lines in the parking lot behind the Chinese Restaurant and the "Buell Block."

That's one view:  here's another.

The parking lot is in the lower right-hand corner.

And if you haven't already guessed, that photograph and the following were all taken yesterday morning by "the Flying Librarian" from an altitude of 2,500 feet.

All except the last one are views of Waterville as seen from slightly different angles.

If you look closely at this view you'll find "the House in the Hollow" right in the very center of the image. (Please note that the lawn has been mown and that the Blog Car, parked in the driveway, is clean!)

Remember to "click" on the images to enlarge them!

The last view is a mystery shot: do you know where you are?
8:36 a.m. - Kim Fancett got it!
9:30 - Yvonne Durant Brady was right, too!

With great thanks to librarian / pilot / photographer Jeff Reynolds.

Now, back down to Earth, and more photographs by Jody Hildreth who paid another visit to the Fox Family yesterday afternoon!

"This little guy didn't realize he was walking by me until he heard the shutter clicking - he was only 10 feet away."

Practicing "the pounce!"

"Momma bringing home the bacon - or rats, in this case."

I'm convinced that Jody has eyes in the back of his head!
While photographing fox kits, he also took these pictures of ....

.............. "a Tree Swallow, looking for tenant property" ......

........... and a yellow Warbler.

As always, Thank You, Jody, for sharing your photographs with the readers of "At Home in the Huddle."

Foraging for Dandelion Greens and "Fiddleheads"

Dandelion Greens

They're a super-healthy food and the price is right, but don't gather any from areas that have been sprayed and don't select plants that have already borne blossoms.

Dandelion greens are the most bitter greens I've ever tasted, but they are an "old country" favorite and clever cooks can prepare them in many different ways that make the common, ordinary weeds completely tasty and satisfying.

Recipes you should try.

"Fiddleheads"

A Springtime delicacy, celebrated in New England with Fiddlehead Festivals!

All you need to know,
from the Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Maine.

Fiddlehead Fern Pie with Bacon and Cheese.

Just one more thing ......

"TBT" or "Throwback Thursday" has become a popular feature on "social media."  Usually, people who use "Instagram," "Facebook or "Twitter" post images of crinkled and/or faded photographs of themselves in their cutest (baby) outfits.

For the purposes of this blog, however, I'll spare you pictures of me in any childish situation, but hope you will enjoy seeing some weekly views of Waterville in its younger days.

Tennis, Anyone?

The Tennis Club's grass court was located just about where the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, dedicated in 1899, now stands. Membership in the club was enjoyed by many of the elite young residents of the Village and a tennis match was a social occasion for which one, apparently, wore their "Sunday best."

*****

Have a good weekend, everyone.
