It's Garbage Day
8.1 degrees at 7:00 a.m.
Here is the TWCNY Morning Weather Forecast:
"Chilly Start to the Week, Temperatures Improve Toward Midweek
It will be a bitter cold start to the week with temperatures in the single digits to start the day. After seeing plenty of sunshine through the day, high temperatures will be below average with highs generally ending up between 20 and 25.
Over the next few days a slight warming trend looks to take place with highs in the 30s Tuesday and closer to 40 degrees Wednesday. Luckily, this temperature moderation will be accompanied by quiet conditions until the arrival of our next system around the middle of the week."

SAINT PATRICK'S DAY
"St. Patrick was born in Britain to wealthy parents near the end of the
fourth century. He is believed to have died on March 17, around 460 A.D.
Although his father was a Christian deacon, it has been suggested that
he probably took on the role because of tax incentives and there is no
evidence that Patrick came from a particularly religious family. At the
age of 16, Patrick was taken prisoner by a group of Irish raiders who
were attacking his family’s estate. They transported him to Ireland
where he spent six years in captivity. (There is some dispute over where
this captivity took place. Although many believe he was taken to live
in Mount Slemish in County Antrim, it is more likely that he was held in
County Mayo near Killala.) During this time, he worked as a shepherd,
outdoors and away from people. Lonely and afraid, he turned to his
religion for solace, becoming a devout Christian. (It is also believed
that Patrick first began to dream of converting the Irish people to
Christianity during his captivity.)"

In the aftermath of the Boy's Basketball Team's loss on Friday, many many letters of consolation and commendation have been sent to them. This, from Brian Staring, sums them up:
"You may
have lost today in the Final Four, but to everyone who has watched you play
all season, you have done what no other team has done in The Waterville Boys
Varsity Basketball history. What does
it take to be a champion? Desire, dedication, determination, concentration and
the will to win. You have done just that. Champions
aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep
inside them - a desire, a dream, and a vision. Your vision has done everything
you set out to do since the season started. Champions
are not the ones who always win the game - champions are the ones who get out
there and try. They give everything and play from there heart. You guys have
had a great season. A season that will last many years. You have made memories
that will last you a lifetime. Memories that will last a long time to the
community. When you’re older, you will bring your children, and grandchildren
to the Waterville High Schools’ Gym and showing them the banners and trophies
you have won this year. You will be telling them the many stories of how you
played as a team. The team were you all became brothers, family. "
" Leslie Risley: " From an old timer, whose husband played a thousand years ago as well as
current boyfriend (smile.) Am so proud of the purple and gold!!!!"

For their part, letters and notes of Thanks came from the players themselves. This was posted on Facebook by Zach Sawyer: "Thank
you to all the Waterville fans and the whole community for coming out
and supporting us. We couldn't have gone this far without any of you
guys. It was truly an amazing experience and thank you everyone that has
supported us! "

FOR THE RECORD
March is the month of the Full Worm Moon.
"The Full Worm Moon was given its name by the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior.
At the time of this spring Moon, the ground begins to soften and
earthworm casts reappear, inviting the return of robins.
In some
regions, this is also known as the Sap Moon, as it marks the time when
maple sap begins to flow and the annual tapping of maple trees begins."
- from the Old Farmer's Almanac.

Although I still enjoy riding round looking at the Winter Scenery and still think "It's so pretty!" I really am very sick of the COLD!
So - I'm going back into hibernation for the rest of Winter and will see you, again, in Spring!
