- IN MEMORIAM -

Ernest W. Lince, Jr.

1940 - 2014

It's Garbage Day.
66 degrees and dry at 5:30 a.m.

The TWCNY Weather Forecast:

"Windy & Turning Cooler Thursday, Remaining Unseasonably Cool Into Next Week

Later tonight, our attention will turn to a strong cold front, which will provide us with showers and some thunder late tonight through midday Thursday. In the wake of this front, a big cool down is expected for the end of the week and beyond.  Temperatures on Thursday should manage to climb into the low 70s, before dropping into the 60s during the afternoon. Thursday will also be windy with some developing sun during the afternoon.
The end of the week into the weekend will be unseasonably cool with highs in the low to mid 60s Friday through the first half of next week!  Some sun will shine Friday with some lake clouds around and possibly a shower to the west during the morning.  A wave of low pressure will ride up along a stalled front to the south and provide us with some showers for Saturday, but we should clear out nicely for Sunday."

Here & There

Mike Tower has begun construction of a third residential building in what was once a gravel pit just beyond the Village limits on Madison Street.

Out near "Conger's Corners," the junction of Madison Street and Route 20, Dan Maine's Woodshop has new Autumn decorations thanks to his very clever wife, Marilyn.

Is that Stillman Wright of White Street up on the ladder getting ready to do some painting?

It could be painters at work on a lift at the Swanberg Home, built by George Putnam around 1880, or perhaps they're installing new "flashing."

On Putnam Street, Alan Tarbox & crew are now repairing woodwork on the former "Home for Homeless Ladies."

In my mail I found the following unexpected note from Kris Eisenhut:

"I would like to thank all my customers for the past 3 years At The Kountry Kafe.  I have sold it. Myself and my family have no ties with the new owners.
have met so many great people and enjoyed cooking for you all.
Thank you,  Kris Eisenhut
P.S.    Going to warmer weather...."

The famous Deansboro diner is now called "Kristen's Kountry Kafé" ...

... and here's the new owner, Kristen Jones.  No stranger to the customers, Kristen has been working there for about two years and just about everyone knows her sparkly smile!

Jeff Reynolds, "the flying librarian" who delights us with aerial photographs of the Village -  like this, taken last week  -

............. spent all day Tuesday saying "No!"

On Monday morning what was described as "a small plane" spent a good fifteen minutes circling Hanover and the Village "flying at a very low altitude."  Of course, most who saw - or heard - it wondered if it were Jeff and proceeded to ask if he'd been the pilot.
The answer, however, was a firm "No!" And he added:
"First, I wouldn't be flying any time that the Library is open.  I'd be here, at work!"
"Secondly, I never fly at an altitude less than 2,200 feet, and that's not what anyone watching from the ground would think was "low."

(No: it wasn't John Brouillette, either.)
