It's Recyclables Day

The temperature is -0.6 degrees at 5:30 a.m.

The TWCNY morning weather forecast:

"Quiet and Chilly,  Watching a Nearby System for Thursday

Clearing skies, calm winds and a solid snow-pack will set us up for one of the coldest, if not the coldest night of the month. Temperatures by early Wednesday morning will be well below zero for all areas. High pressure overhead Wednesday will mean a lot of sun and not much wind. Temperatures will once again be about 10 degrees below average with highs in the low to mid 20s.

High pressure will track to the east and we'll turn our attention to a developing storm along the coast. Computer guidance has been trending this storm closer to us, which would mean more snow across the region. Snow looks to break out by the early afternoon and continue into Thursday night. Steadiest and heaviest snow right now looks to be southeast of Albany, but since we're still over a day out, that could also change. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the whole area from Thursday into Friday morning.

It's looking more likely we see a shove-able/plow-able snowfall Thursday into Thursday night. Stay tuned to Weather on the 1s for the latest!"

Also:

Hank Gardner sent me several pictures accompanied by this thought:

"Before I complain the next time I have to get into that COLD car with no remote starter, no heated seats or warm steering wheel, I’ll try to remember what it was like for my grandparents and their contemporaries!"

"Are we having fun yet?"

I see the fur robes, the shovel and hank of rope strapped to the door, but what are those on the front wheels?
Snow Boards? Skis?
Yep! That's what they are!  I decided to "google" "Antique Automobiles with Skis" and found a page from the Fountainhead Automobile Museum in Fairbanks, Alaska, with this photo and description:
"(Seen here) is Bobbie Sheldon with passengers on the trail to Valdez. Sheldon cut down the axles of his Model T Fords so his tires would fit in the tracks of the horse-drawn sleighs. He also wrapped chains around the rear tires and put skis under the front ones."

(Thank You, Hank!)

FOR THE RECORD

Erin Hamlin of Remsen Won the First

on day 4 of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

**********************************

Not because it was cold out, but because I was glued to the Olympics most of the day, I did not go out and around the village and countryside at all, yesterday.

But so that you'll have something Wintery to look at, here are a few photographs that I've posted on the blog over the past seven  years during February.
