Good Monday Morning!
It's Garbage Day
and the temperature at 5:30 a.m. is 27 degrees.

The temperature stayed above freezing all weekend.  Main Street was deserted except for two vehicles, yesterday afternoon,

but there were always long lines at the Waterville Car Wash!

Folks with Snowmobiles must be getting fairly upset.

The trails beckon, but where is the snow?

The TWCNY Weather Forecast:

"Quiet Weather to Kick Off the Week,

Significant Snow Likely Wednesday.

Look for any flurries or snow showers to taper off overnight. Clouds will slowly give way Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be close to seasonable. High pressure will briefly build in Monday night into Tuesday. Expect a good amount of sun and near seasonable temperatures once again.

Clouds will thicken Tuesday night. Light snow will break out before daybreak Wednesday. Snow will pick up in coverage and intensity as the day wears on. This will impact the morning and evening commute, but likely have a bigger impact on the evening commute. This is still looking like an all snow event for us, with several inches of snow likely by Wednesday night."

Also in the Mail

Don Hinman sent me these pictures of his dog examining recent "blow-down."

I think it must be a hemlock.  Their root systems, as you can see in the next photograph, stay fairly close to the surface of the soil and  fully-grown trees are more easily toppled by winds.

My thanks to Don - and his dog, which provided a good sense of proportion!

FOR THE RECORD
in case you didn't know.....

The Seattle Seahawks won the Superbowl,
beating the Denver Broncos 43 - 8.

Which Commercials won?
You decide!

Yesterday was also Groundhog Day, and "Punxsutawney Phil"
predicted six more weeks of Winter.
