The TWCNY Weather Forecast

"Cold Settles In, Lake Effect Snow Kicks into Gear.
It will be cold from this point forward in our 7 day forecast. We will see highs only near 40, but most of the days ahead will be spent in the 30s. Today will be chilly with a light breeze and a few flurries. Steady lake effect snow will be taking place over the Tug and couties of the East end of lake Ontario.
Over the next few days we have cold and lake snow in the forecast. This will be locally steady for some but lighter for most.
We are watching a system that will take shape next week that will bring more cold and more snow."

FOR THE RECORD

In case you haven't read The Waterville Times, here is a "Letter to the Editor" written by your blogger - PsBrown.

Re: the Electronic Bulletin Board for the Park.

"There’s Good News and there’s Bad News.  There has been a considerable amount of concern that the new electronic (digital) bulletin board that will soon be installed in the Park will be “too bright,” “garish,” “out-of-place,” or otherwise distracting.  Village Clerk Brenda Knoeller showed me a photograph of the proposed display, last Friday. The planned “frame” has been designed to replicate features of the Bandstand and the message area itself will have a solid black background with messages displayed in brownish-orange ("bright amber") letters that do not appear to be quite as bright as the colors on some other digital boards.

The Bad News is that although the Village had received a grant from the Edward S. Barton Trust that would have covered the cost of a full- (4-color) board from Fiberdyne Labs in Frankfort, the Mayor and Trustees opted to buy a two-color display from another source so that the board could be put into service as soon as possible with the least amount of technical study.
The message displays will be controlled from the office of the Village Clerk and I certainly can’t blame Ms. Knoeller for not wanting to be faced with a complicated piece of equipment: she probably does not have the time nor has she the training. However – basic two-color displays (plus ongoing training) were also possible with the Fiberdyne equipment and more complicated displays could have been added in the future. Too, there are others in the Village who would no doubt have been glad – and available - to assist with the programming challenge!

As it stands now, the Board’s decision precludes all future possibility of  ever displaying Musical Production  or “bake sale” posters, photographs of Winning Sports Teams and pictures of countless activities and views throughout the community.  In my opinion, the decision has been too hasty,  lacks foresight and is a misuse of a very generous grant from the Barton Trust."

Judging from my mailbox and voicemail, I'm not the only one who questions the Village Board's decision-making process.

Have a good weekend everyone!
