Monday morning update

********

It's Garbage Day.
62 degrees and rainy at 6:30 a.m.

The TWCNY Weather Forecast:

"Warm & Muggy , Unsettled with Showers.

"Today will start off wet with showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder. Chances for rain will lessen through the day, but clouds will hang tough right into the afternoon. There could still be a couple isolated showers in the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

A warm and moist atmosphere will remain in place through the work week with highs in the 70s and 80s and overnight lows in the 60s. Scattered showers and storms will be possible each day, especially towards Thursday and Friday.

Special Report from Pat Moshetti re: the
"Sherburne Pageant of Bands" -

"Despite being bumped up to class B this year, competing with schools up to 3 times the size of Waterville, our kids did an amazing job.  Jazz Band scoring a 97, the second highest score out of 38 schools!  Concert band with an 88, and all other groups in the top 5.  Very proud of these kids, it is difficult competing with schools of the size in our class this year, but the kids came through in all groups scoring very well!"

IN MY MAIL

....  these photographs taken by Jeff Reynolds during a recent visit with his parents at their home in Cooperstown.

Not just one .....

....  but two tiny fawns, who must have thought that the Alchemilla, Lavendar and Iris in Mrs. Reynolds' garden were giant forest shrubs and trees!

Their first Great Adventure in a Hosta Wilderness!

(Thank you, Jeff. I do hope the little explorers survive!)

In wet ditches everywhere, Blue Flag and Watercress.

From the Washington Post.

Watercress has a peppery taste somewhat like horseradish - adds a tangy touch to salads!

I'm not suggesting that you go out and gather 'cress from a ditch next to a road where all sorts of contaminants are probably present in the water and on the leaves, but - if you find some in a remote, unpolluted location or decide to purchase some at Hannaford's - here's something you can do with it:

Using the most tender, top-most leaves -- NOT the blossoms -- chop or process a cup or so of leaves very fine and add to a well-blended mixture of one-half softened salt-free butter and one-half softened cream cheese. (The addition of freshly-ground black pepper is suggested, but only in the most judicious amounts.)

Spread on thin white sandwich bread, cut into squares or triangles and - of course! - remove the crusts. Chill; enjoy!
