Thursday a.m. update

*******************

It's 62 degrees and dry at 7:00 a.m.

The TWCNY Weather Forecast:

"Lots of Sunshine Today,  Pleasant Through the Weekend.

After a couple of showers overnight, drier and cooler air is working in from the north thanks to a strong area of high pressure building south from Canada. As this high works in, the front which brought showers and storms to the region over the last couple of days has pushed into the Mid-Atlantic. There it will stay for the next couple of days, giving us a spectacular weekend. Look for highs today in the mid 70s.
High pressure is in full control tonight, giving us clear skies and calm winds. That will allow temperatures to drop quickly after sunset, with lows in the middle 40s to near 50 expected. Sunny conditions continue for Friday with only a few afternoon clouds expected. Highs will again be in the 70s.
Dry and pleasant weather will continue through the weekend, with the next chance of rain not expected until Monday. \"

NOW OPEN!

It must have been about 3:45 when I saw (1) a parking spot in front of "The Slaughtered Lamb Pub" and (2) the signboard advertising "Shepherd's Pie" at 6:00.

I chatted for a few minutes with the publican, Terry Brown, and two of his pals and then went off to find more photos.

When I came back into town and saw the gathering that had appeared a little after the 4 o'clock opening, I wished I'd stayed!

Open daily except Monday from 4:00 - midnight.

I don't know how they'll do it, but the move from Sanger Avenue to East Main Street will take place starting on the 28th and finishing, with everything in place, less than 24 hours later!

New on White Street.  A Rocket Launch site?

Perhaps this announcement, excerpted from an article in the Observer-Dispatch, will explain:

"Waterville Public Library: $10,853. The project involves:
HVAC controls upgrade, a new sign at the library's entrance and construction of a storage shed."

(The above structure has nothing to do with the HVAC controls and it's not a storage shed, either!)

What a dandy storm we had on Tuesday night!

I saw some fields of hay that had been flattened, here and there, but other crops are

"No-till" corn in many fields throughout Hanover.

At the Landis Farm on Shanley Road straw is spread between rows of Strawberry plants to keep rain from splashing mud on the berries and, also, to keep berry-pickers from kneeling in mud.

Last year's sign - but the message is clear, and the berries are delicious!

To Whom it may Concern ....

While I was out having lunch with a friend, on Tuesday, someone left a tiny "bouquet" on my back porch - perhaps out of thoughtfulness or perhaps because they wondered what the plants were.

I think that the tallest of the three, with the greenest leaves, is a Wild Clover, not yet in bloom.
The little white blossoms are those of Bladder Campion, another common wildflower, but I didn't know the name of the grass. I looked through a great many of the Botanical Drawings of Grasses offered by "Google," without luck, and then posted this photo on Facebook.  Within an hour Craig Tilbe had written:

"Grass with the seed heads looks to be Yellow Nutsedge - which is edible.  Check to see if it has a triangular stem. Dead giveaway."

I did; it did, he was right!   Thank you, Craig!!
