THURSDAY MORNING
WATERVILLE: 2hr Delay - No AM Pre-K and no AM BOCES
It's 21 degrees at 6:00 a.m.
I can't tell how much snow fell during the night
or whether or not it's still actually snowing, but here's what TWCNY says:
"The Worst is Over!"
"Snow Showers Remain thru Friday, Chilly and Blustery Conditions.
After heavy snow fell over the past couple of days, we enter into a period of lighter snow showers and flurries. Lake effect takes the lead and brings these snow showers to the area for the rest of the week. It will remain cold through this period with highs in the 20s and 30s. Winds stay a bit strong so some limited blowing and drifting is possible.
We finish the week with snow showers and flurries with chilly conditions.
Ahead for the weekend and early next week a slow increase in the temperature and fairly quiet conditions. For more stay tuned to your weather on the 1s updates!"

IN THE MAIL
Multiple Queries: "What's going on up on Putnam?"
I missed the action, but it was plain to observers that the Village DPW was doing some digging. (This, of course, must have something to do with the oft-referenced EPA Brownfield report and study.)
The "official" answer, I'm told, was - "compaction testing" (of soil samples) by engineer(s) hired by Mr. David Sullivan who proposes to buy the property in order to construct multiple housing units on the site.
The real question was: "Why was Village DPW manpower and equipment being used?"
Anyone who has read the EPA guide (yes, I have) knows that what sounds like a simple question does not have a simple answer.
I would appreciate receiving comments from Mayor Ostrander or Village Trustees Mssrs. McNamara, Woodhouse, Treen or Bogan.

It's not a huge amount of snow, but it's heavy, and the Masons' Christmas Trees are fairly buried ....
............. except for the one that they gave to the Village and which has been set upright in the Bandstand and strung with mini-lights.
I spotted Geoff Stevens in one of the DPW's "Bobcats" creating a sidewalk next to Route 12 on Sanger Avenue.
Out in the countryside, it was a grand day for taking (almost) black & white photographs.
Beech tree leaves have turned to "parchment" .....
.................. and Bittersweet Berries added a sprinkling of orangey-red to this otherwise black&white scene.
ALSO IN MY MAIL
was this letter from the Garden Club, forwarded to me
by Wendy Sexton:
"The Waterville
Garden Club will be hosting their annual Christmas decorating contest in the
Village of Waterville. The judging will take place on Wed. evening, Dec.
17, 2014.
Homes within the
village limits will be judged in 2 categories: overall effect and doorway. The local businesses will be judged separately. Anyone living
outside the village
limits with a
Waterville address, that is interested in having their home judged is asked to
call Sue Price at 794-4252."
(Thank you, Wendy!)
