28 degrees with light snow at 5:00 a.m.
Only an inch or two overnight accumulation.

The morning weather forecast from TWCNY:

"Seasonable Today, Colder This Weekend.

We are in between systems today with seasonable conditions and partly sunny skies. A new clipper system is expected to work in toward the end of the week with a few scattered wet snow showers returning to the forecast.

Over the next several days temperatures will be bouncing around with highs in the low/mid 30s Thursday, in the upper 30s Friday and in the upper 20s/near 30 this weekend.

The weekend will remain unsettled with scattered snow showers remaining in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday."

YESTERDAY

Our "January Thaw," if that's what it was, came to an abrupt halt yesterday afternoon just as I left to go on my afternoon "ride-around."

By the time I reached Stafford Avenue, heavy, wet snowflakes were falling but stonemason Ray Drake was washing the whitish mortar residue from the new construction at St. Bernard's.....

........... leaving the newly-cleaned brickwork the very same color as that of the church building.

It didn't take long for snow to accumulate on side streets in the Village ....

.............  or between rows of corn stubble in fields next to Fuess-Cleary Road .......

..............  and making homely burdock look like lovely bushes of pearls.

"It Happened One Night" is a 1934 American romantic comedy film with elements of screwball comedy directed by Frank Capra, in which a pampered socialite (Claudette Colbert) tries to get out from under her father's thumb, and falls in love with a roguish reporter (Clark Gable). "It Happened One Night" was
the first to win all five major Academy Awards (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay.)

Mystery Solved!

A few years ago Denise Jaquays-Tarbox sent this picture to me asking if anyone could tell her what this crockery container could possibly be used for.  No one knew.

But then, last evening, while I was watching an episode of the British production "The Duchess of Duke Street" (on Amazon video via ROKU) I saw this:

 - and there it was.  The very same thing!

Who would have guessed that it was hot water Bed or Foot Warmer!
(Sometimes called a "porcelain pig.")
