Monday morning update

Yesterday was December 7th,

*******************************

*****************************************

Today is Garbage Day.
It's 18 degrees and dry at 4:45 a.m.

The WKTV Weather Forecast:

"A winter storm watch is in effect for all of Central New York on Tuesday.
A cold, sunny start to Monday with plenty of afternoon sunshine.  A bit less chilly, with highs in the mid 30s.  Clouds thicken up Monday night as our next winter weather event begins.
A complex nor'easter will develop Tuesday and slide up the coast.  Given the current track, this storm is likely to produce mixed precipitation initially late Tuesday, before mixing with and changing to snow on Wednesaday.  Several inches of accumulation are expected on Wednesday and Thursday as the storm stalls along the coast.  A heavy wet snow is expected with high temperatures during the daytime of the event in the low to mid 30s.
Light snow showers on Friday as the system departs, followed by much warmer weather for the weekend and early next week."

They're here!

Roger Tanner, who was on Sales duty at around 3:00, Saturday afternoon, told me that there had been "about 200 trees" but that since they'd been unloaded that morning sixteen trees had already been sold!
(Don't wait too long!)

(YES!  Thanks to the Masons, there is a Tree lying in the Bandstand. The Village DPW will no doubt set it up on Monday!)

THANK YOU!

Saturday was a very misty-murky day.

The "fountain" Elm next to outer Madison Street
(one of Jean Davis' favorites!)
seemed to be disappearing right into a cloud.

IN THE MAIL

These photographs and description, sent to me by Doris Stephan from the 12th Annual Victorian Tea sponsored by the Waterville Historical Society on Saturday afternoon.

The theme of this year's Tea was "Victorian Living."
Kelly Falk gave a talk on Mary Todd Lincoln (who was unable to attend, as she was summoned back to Washington, D.C.). And gave a demonstration of the recipes for making your own household cleaners and makeup that Mary would have used in the early years of her marriage, before the White House.

Co-chairladies Carol Sambora and Kelly Falk.

Proper Tea-time Attire.

Carols by the Choraleers:
Stanley Sambora, Joe Falk, Kirk Hudson, Lou Langone and Kent Cole.

Christmas Shopping at the "Store."

Something New ......

................  on the newly-refurbished, handsomely painted East Main Street building which for years housed Fred Moon's Barber Shop, the authentic Koken Barber Pole which may, in fact, have been a familiar fixture going back to days when Lynn Quillman was the barber in the 1940s and 50s or Charlie Dovey, who followed.

Diane Williams'  "Uptown Salon" was closed, on Saturday, but when the shop is open the Barber Pole will be lit!
(I believe that Diane is actually Fred Moon's granddaughter.)

The "old timers" - at least most of those who have not flown South for the Winter - who have spent the last six summers celebrating the good old days of "Once Upon a Time in Waterville" held a special off-season celebration on Friday at the American Legion:

They have often noted that there were times when Waterville had  as many as two-dozen Taverns or Saloons - until Prohibition, that is - which lasted from January of 1920 until its Repeal on December 5, 1933.

This was such a major event that one old-timer (your blogger) wondered why it had never been marked by a national holiday, but - since it had not - the group happily decided to correct that omission by having their own Prohibition Repeal Celebration.

Joke- and pun-filled camaraderie reigned; the food, prepared by members of the Legion Auxiliary was delicious, and a good time was had by all!
