TODAY'S WEATHER:
It's 47 degrees and rainy at 5:30 a.m.

The TWCNY Forecast:

"Turning Colder Today, Much Colder Next Week.

A few showers early today, then a few breaks of sun late. Breezy and turning colder with temperatures slowly falling through the 30s.
High pressure should bring a mix of sun and clouds on Monday with colder air settling into the area. That colder air may kick off a few flurries and snow showers off the lakes. Lake effect flurries and snow showers should continue on and off throughout the week with the cold air sticking around."

It's Christmas Day.

At 5:00 a.m. it's 46 degrees and blustery.

Yesterday afternoon a strange thing happened: as you can see in these photographs by Jeff Reynolds, in valleys and even across the high fields of Hanover, layers of white fog formed close to the ground.  Meteorologists will explain in great detail just why fog develops - water droplets, air and ground temperatures, and so forth -

...........  but it looked to some as if Nature, making up for the lack our usual blanket of Christmas Eve snow, had laid smooth, white runways for Santa's sleigh!

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

***********

The TWCNY Morning Weather Forecast:

"A Windy and Blustery Christmas,  A Quiet Finish to the Week.
With a cold front now working to our east, we have falling
temperatures and windy conditions. It will be a manageable day for travel but the wind will be a problem for air travel and will make for a blustery Christmas day. Not a lot of showers or flurries, but some lake enhanced precipitation will keep the risk for a few showers and wet snow showers to end our Christmas day. We finish in the 30s and the wind stays strong through the night.
Getting into the end of the work week we have quiet conditions and highs in the 40s. We have a quiet start to the weekend with some
of that rare sunshine."

Right now, in Waterville, it's 42 degrees and drippy.

Here's what to look for in the next few days:

The TWCNY Weather Forecast:

Breezy & Unseasonably Mild, Windy and Colder Christmas

A strengthening area of low pressure swinging in from the southwest will provide us with occasional showers on this Christmas Eve. Despite that, temperatures look even warmer with highs in the 50s!

This system should start to pull away to our north on Christmas Day and after seeing morning highs in the 40s, temperatures will drop into the 30s by the end of the day. As a result, the forecast calls for both rain and wet snow showers with quieter conditions on tap for Friday. After starting off the weekend with highs near 50 on Saturday, colder air is expected to work in on Sunday with temperatures back in the 30s.

TODAY IS GARBAGE DAY!

Here's the Weather Forecast from WKTV:

"Leftover snow showers from yesterday's weather system will continue to fly today.  Cloudy, with occasional light snow and highs in the low 30s.  Snowfall accumulation is expected to be less than one inch for most areas.  A bit of a breeze between 10-15mph will make it feel like 20s throughout most of the day.  Clouds and light snow showers linger tonight, with little additional accumulation.  Lows in the uper 20s.

Clouds with a few flurries on Friday with highs in the low 30s.  A pleasant weekend is expected, with dry conditions and some sunshine!  Partial clearing on Saturday, especially late in the day with highs in the mid 30s.  Partly sunny and dry Sunday.  Clouds increase Monday with highs approaching 40.

The next weather maker looks to bring rain and possibly some snow for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. "

...... even in the cold, the installation of new third-floor windows in the historic "Wheeler Block." Originally two separate buildings built in the early 1800s and housing two separate stores, they were combined and the third floor added sometime between 1870 and 1874. FOR THE RECORD

After urging the Parade of Lights Committee to consider decorating the Memorial Bandstand I learned from one committee member that they had the impression that it was a
"no-no" and that they should keep "hands off!"

I'm completely stymied and can't imagine WHO or WHY anyone would have said that!

My husband would be sputtering and demanding to know
"Why not?"
(Actually, he would have said, "Why the HE** not?")

With so many places to go, people to see and things to do,
blog posts are probably going to be
totally sporadic for the next week or two and appear only when events warrant.

In the meantime, this is for all of you .....

Merry Christmas!
